This is the new version of Paul Vojta's (et. al.) XDVI (patchlevel 15).

Requirements:
In order to use this distribution of xdvi, you'll need:
		Linux 0.96bpl2
		X11v1.1
		GCC 2.2.2
		300dpi fonts for TeX
Technically, you don't need all of GCC 2.2.2: just the shared libs
will do, unless you want to recompile or re-link this.

Installation:
For those of you who are perfectly happy with my binary, just copy
	xdvi into /usr/bin/X11, and xman.n into /usr/man/mann. You'll need
your 300dpi TeX fonts in /usr/local/lib/tex/fonts. If you don't
like that, then just set your TEXFONTS environment variable to
the correct directory. The included script MakeTeXPK needs to be
placed in /usr/local/lib/tex, and should be setuid to whichever user
should own any fonts it creates. More about this below, in the
"Features" section. There is no Xdvi.ad, because the defaults
don't need to be overridden. If you want to, you can just create
	your own.

If you want to link your own, use the included xdvi.a, and run the
	following command:
	% gcc -o xdvi xdvi.a -lXaw -lXt -lX11 -lm
This'll make you an xdvi that should be identical to the one I've
included. After that, follow the instructions in the first paragraph.

Those die-hard compile-it-yourself people (like me) who want to grab
the sources and compile, get the source from:
	gatekeeper.dec.com	[16.1.0.2]	file pub/X11/contrib/xdvi.tar.Z
Unpack the archive somewhere and edit the Imakefile. The defines
	should be:
	DEFAULT_FONT_PATH=/usr/local/lib/tex/fonts
	DEFS=-DUSE_PK -DUSE_GF -DUSE_PXL -DBMLONG -DGREY -DTEXXET -DSYSV \
	     -DBUTTONS -DSEARCH_SUBDIRECTORIES \
	     -DMAKEPKCMD=\"/usr/local/lib/tex/MakeTeXPK\"
Then follow the instructions in the file "README".

This version (as before) is compiled to assume 8.5"x11" paper by
default. If you want A4 (like all those European wierdos :), then
	you'll need to place:
		xdvi*paper: A4
	in your .Xdefaults.

Features:
To the larger degree, this xdvi is the same as the other versions that
I've released. The big changes are:
    * xdvi now uses greyscales to anti-alias any fonts that it has to scale.
This produces a much more readable display when you're viewing the
      entire page.
    * xdvi will go out and create any fonts that it can't find. This
depends heavily on the MakeTeXPK script included here, and you might
want to edit that for your site. Most sites keep their fonts in a
directory that isn't publicly writable. If you do, then you'll need
to make sure that this shell script is setuid to whatever user
has write permission in that directory. Usually that means doing:
              chown <user> MakeTeXPK
              chmod 4755 MakeTeXPK
Of course, you'll need METAFONT and sources for all the Computer Modern
fonts if you want to use be able to build fonts. If you don't, just
install a script that prints an error message whenever it's called,
but make sure it's got the right name.
    * xdvi can now deal with GF and PXL fonts, in addition to the normal
PK fonts... though I don't know why you'd want to have GF and PXL
fonts lying about your hard disk, since they're so big. :)
    * You can hierarchically arrange your fonts in directories beneath the
default font directory, and xdvi will automatically search them for
      any fonts that it needs.
